ELEVATIONS & CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS
Interior design elevations and construction drawings go past the typical architectural elevation. These elevations are where we add technical information, more dimensions, and design details for elements like built-ins, cabinets, feature walls, trim work, stair systems. This process typically begins in the design development phase and is refined in the construction document phase of design.
Benefits of Interior Elevations and Construction Drawings are:
-
Great communication tool for the client, consultants, fabricators and the construction team
-
Used to accurately communicate the clients design vision
-
Contractors use these drawings for accurate estimating and contracting of the right fabricator
-
Fabrication team use these drawings as the baseline for shop drawings
This flow of information from the client to the team in the field helps to keep costs down, production up and ensure that the clients expectations are met.
LIGHTING DESIGN SELECTIONS & DIAMGRAMS
Lighting design starts at the Design development phase. Here, at Hammerhead Design, we consider all three types of lighting and the intended use of every space. This allows us to design a well thought out lighting package that is customized to each room and the clients taste.
-
Ambient Lighting
-
Ambient lighting is a uniform illumination over the entire area
-
Interior areas typically utilize fixtures such as recessed lights, ceiling mounted fixtures, track lights and pendants
-
-
Task Lighting
-
Task lighting provides illumination to a specific area
-
Interior areas utilize fixtures like lamps, undercabinet lighting, vanity lighting, and pendants.
-
-
Accent Lighting
-
Accent lighting is typically brighter than Ambient lighting and guides your gaze to a focal point such as a piece of art, a wall feature or exposed Timber bent
-
Equally important is the Electrical plans. We typically start by laying out receptacles generally at first. We then strategically place receptacles at locations and elevations for items like charging stations, appliances, furniture, computers & printers. Following that, we look at the types of lighting in the room, the flow of traffic and intended use to determine the best locations for light switches and type of switches be it dimmable, 3way, single pole or other.
PLUMBING SELECTION & DIAGRAMS
At Hammerhead Design we believe in selecting the fixtures with the client and compiling the plumbing schedule during the design development stage. Communicating these selections to the consultants and construction team early in the design process allows everyone to properly account for the fixtures within the design, diagrams and Specifications. Additionally, having this information compiled early in the design process will allow the contractor to estimate the project more accurately. Our schedules are very detailed and include items such as drains, attachments and accessories. We believe that there is no detail to small in these situations.
The diagrams are key to installation. A diagram is an elevation or floor plan view of a specific space within a larger area. When it relates to plumbing fixtures, these diagrams are most common in shower areas. They allow us to layout the shower finishes, and fixtures so that the builder can install them in the exact location that the client desires for their intended use. This level of information will increase productivity, reduce construction costs and ensure client expectations are being met.
TILE SELECTION & DIAGRAMS
Tile selection is started at the schematic design phase and refined throughout the Design Development phase and into the construction documents phase. This is because not all tiles are the same size and we can tweak room sizes to accommodate selected tiles to achieve maximum design impact. This information is then be added to a schedule that communicates to the construction team exactly what products to procure in order to realize the clients vision.
Similar to, and often in the same area as plumbing fixtures, diagrams are created for the tile layout. Laying out and setting tile requires a specific skillset and once they are installed, they are not easily removed. Rework and reorder of tile is costly to the budget and schedule of a project. Often matching tile dye lots is a challenge and occasionally additional tiles are just not available. That is why it is essential to draw these diagrams for the tile layouts to help ensure the project is delivered on time, on budget and meets the clients expectations.
HARDWARE SELECTION & DIAGRAMS
At Hammerhead design we consider How hardware functions in addition to how it looks. Making these selections with a client in the design development phase helps us to design details with the clients desires in mind. These selections are added to hardware schedules, and used by the construction team to estimate, purchase, and install.
